Hamok Dog Bed Size Guide

Find the Right Size for Your Dog

Measure your dog, consider how they sleep and compare the available Hamok sizes before ordering. A little extra room is usually better than a bed that is too small.

How to Measure Your Dog

Measure your dog while they are lying in their most natural sleeping position.

  1. Length: Measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail.
  2. Width: Measure the widest part of the body while lying down.
  3. Add space: Add approximately 15–25 cm to both measurements so your dog can shift position and stretch.
  4. Compare: Choose a bed with a sleeping area at least as large as the final measurements.
Best practice: Choose the larger option when your dog is between sizes or regularly sleeps fully stretched out.

Hamok Size Options

Use these overall frame dimensions as a starting point. Always compare them with your dog’s actual lying measurements before purchasing.

Breed Size Recommendations

Breed recommendations are only a guide. Dogs of the same breed can differ substantially in body length, weight and sleeping style.

Labrador

Large is usually the best starting point. Size up when your dog is especially tall or sleeps stretched out.

German Shepherd

Large often provides a comfortable fit. Measure long-bodied or larger individuals carefully.

Boerboel

Large may suit some adults, while larger Boerboels may need the Giant or a custom option.

Great Dane

Giant is generally the better option. Large is usually too compact for a fully grown Great Dane.

Golden Retriever

Large is usually appropriate, although longer dogs may benefit from additional room.

Mixed Breed

Ignore breed labels and use your dog’s actual lying measurements for the most reliable fit.

Sleeping Style Changes the Size You Need

Curled Up

Compact sleepers may use less space, but still need room to change position.

Side Sleeper

Allow enough width for the legs and shoulders to rest naturally.

Fully Stretched

Choose a bed longer than the dog’s full nose-to-tail resting length.

Sprawler

Size up to accommodate wide leg positions and frequent movement.

Common Sizing Mistakes

  • Choosing only from a breed recommendation.
  • Measuring your dog while standing instead of lying down.
  • Forgetting to include extra stretching space.
  • Buying for a puppy’s current size rather than adult size.
  • Assuming two dogs will comfortably share one bed.
Quick decision rule

When in doubt, choose more room

A slightly larger bed gives your dog space to stretch, turn and find a comfortable position. A bed that is too small may leave the head, legs or body unsupported. Ask Hamok for sizing help →

Dog Bed Sizing Questions

Should I choose the larger size?

Yes, when your dog falls between sizes, sleeps fully stretched out or moves frequently while sleeping. More room is generally preferable to a bed that is too small.

What if my dog is still growing?

Choose a size based on the expected adult dimensions of the breed or mix. This helps avoid replacing the bed shortly after purchase.

Can two dogs share one Hamok bed?

They can if the combined lying measurements fit comfortably within the sleeping area and the bed is rated appropriately for their combined size. Separate beds are often more comfortable.

Does weight matter as much as length?

Both matter. Length and width determine whether your dog fits comfortably, while weight affects the support requirements of the frame and cover.

Do you make custom sizes?

Selected custom sizes may be available. Contact Hamok with your required dimensions so the team can confirm feasibility and pricing.
