Hamok Dog Bed Care Guide
Keep Your Hamok Clean, Secure and Ready for Rest
Simple care helps protect the steel frame, extend the life of replaceable covers and keep your dog’s sleeping space comfortable.
Care at a Glance
Regular cleaning, dry storage, correct assembly and early replacement of worn components help keep a Hamok bed safe and comfortable.
Keep it Dry
Remove standing water and allow the frame and cover to dry properly after cleaning or rain.
Check the Cover
Inspect tension, seams and attachment points before small areas of wear become larger failures.
Use It Correctly
Keep the bed correctly assembled and use it only for its intended purpose and suitable dog size.
How to Care for the Steel Frame
- Wipe the frame with a soft damp cloth
- Dry the frame after washing or rain
- Remove standing water around feet and joints
- Inspect the coating for chips or deep scratches
- Touch up exposed steel promptly with suitable paint
- Check connectors and fasteners regularly
- Move the bed carefully rather than dragging it
Moisture is the main risk
Powder coating or protective paint helps shield the steel, but any coating can wear or become damaged over time.
Prolonged exposure to standing water, salt, harsh chemicals or damaged coating can lead to corrosion.
Looking After Replaceable Covers
Fabric covers are wearable components. Their lifespan depends on dog behaviour, material, tension, cleaning, weather and everyday use.
Keep the Cover Secure
A correctly fitted cover should be secure and supportive without being twisted or attached unevenly.
Inspect Wear Points
Check seams, corners, attachment points and areas your dog repeatedly scratches or steps on.
Do Not Use a Failed Cover
Replace a cover when it can no longer safely support your dog or when damage is spreading.
Safe Cleaning Routine
Remove loose hair and dirt
Brush or vacuum the cover before washing.
Use mild soap
Clean with a soft cloth or brush and a mild, pet-safe detergent.
Rinse thoroughly
Remove soap residue that may irritate skin or attract dirt.
Dry fully
Allow the cover and frame to dry completely before use.
Do not use harsh cleaning methods
- Do not use strong bleach unless specifically approved
- Do not use solvents or corrosive chemicals
- Do not pressure-wash close to seams or coating damage
- Do not use excessive heat to dry fabric
- Do not refit a cover while it is still wet
Outdoor and Weather Care
Hamok beds may be used in suitable outdoor areas, but permanent exposure to harsh weather will shorten the life of the frame, coating and cover.
- Place the bed under cover where possible
- Avoid standing water and poor drainage
- Bring cushions indoors when not in use
- Allow wet covers to dry fully
- Store the bed during prolonged severe weather
- Limit unnecessary exposure to strong UV and rain
Sun, rain and coastal air
Strong sunlight may fade fabric and gradually weaken some materials. Coastal salt, humidity and frequent rain can increase corrosion risk.
More frequent inspection and cleaning may be required in exposed or coastal environments.
Monthly Safety Check
A quick inspection helps identify wear before it becomes a comfort or safety problem.
Frame and Feet
Check for movement, rust, damaged coating, loose connections and missing foot caps.
Cover and Seams
Look for thinning, stretched holes, torn seams, loose webbing and uneven tension.
Dog Behaviour
Watch for repeated chewing, scratching, digging or avoidance that may indicate damage or discomfort.
Replace Worn Parts Instead of the Whole Bed
Hamok’s replaceable-component approach is designed to extend product life and reduce unnecessary replacement of the steel frame.
Depending on availability, replacement covers, feet, connectors or other parts may be supplied separately.
Send us a photograph
To help identify the correct part, send:
- Your order number
- Bed size or dimensions
- A photograph of the full bed
- A close-up photograph of the affected part
- A brief description of what is needed
Care and Warranty Work Together
Following reasonable care instructions helps prevent avoidable damage and makes it easier to assess whether a problem resulted from normal wear, environmental exposure or a qualifying manufacturing defect.
Dog Bed Care Questions
How often should I clean my Hamok bed?
Clean it whenever dirt, hair or odour builds up. Homes with active, outdoor or shedding dogs may require more frequent cleaning.
Can I hose the bed down?
A gentle rinse may be suitable for some covers and frames, but avoid aggressive pressure near seams, connectors or damaged coating. Dry all components fully afterwards.
Can I use bleach?
Avoid strong bleach unless the specific cover instructions approve it. Harsh chemicals may weaken fabric, affect colour or damage protective coatings.
Can the bed stay outside permanently?
Permanent exposure to strong sun, rain, standing water and coastal air will shorten product life. Covered outdoor use and dry storage are preferable.
What should I do if the frame coating is scratched?
Clean and dry the area, then apply a suitable steel touch-up coating before corrosion develops.
When should I replace the cover?
Replace it when tears, severe stretching, damaged seams or weakened attachment points prevent it from supporting your dog safely.
Can I wash the cover in a machine?
This depends on the material and construction. Follow the care label or product-specific instructions. When uncertain, use gentle hand cleaning and air drying.
How do I stop chewing damage?
Supervise dogs that chew, redirect the behaviour and remove the bed if damage creates a safety risk. Chewing is not normally considered a manufacturing defect.
Can I buy replacement parts?
Selected replacement covers and components may be available. Contact Hamok with photographs and your bed details.
